The manual download option isn’t available for everyone

Microsoft has started rolling out the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) to users across the world, and the process takes place in two different ways.

First of all, it’s the automatic rollout, which means that Microsoft is offering the October 2018 Update via Windows Update just like a regular update. Users are notified of an update and then required to reboot their systems to complete the installation.

The automatic release takes place in stages, and some devices would get the new update at a later time, as compatibility issues, be they software or hardware, are resolved.

Second of all, there’s the manual download option, which Microsoft has simplified substantially by making it possible to skip the waiting time with a press of a button. The only thing you need to do is manually check for updates to download Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

But as several of our readers told me today, the new OS version doesn’t show up in Windows Update on their systems.

Not a bug

What you need to know is that this isn’t a bug. Microsoft isn’t making the October 2018 Update available for everyone via Windows Update, but only for computers that aren’t prone to bugs. In other words, if there’s something that could break down the updating experience for your PC, the update isn’t there.

Your best option in this case is to wait until Microsoft actually makes the October 2018 Update available for your system, but if you still want to install version 1809, there’s the alternative based on the Media Creation Tool.

Learn here how to install Windows 10 October 2018 Update using the Media Creation Tool.

On the other hand, please note that using this solution could lead to bugs once the installation comes to an end, as there’s a good reason Microsoft isn’t offering you the update.

If you choose to wait, there’s obviously no ETA as to when the October 2018 Update could become available for your system, though broad availability is likely to be announced by year-end.
